Wold Intellectual Property Organization or WIPO, the biggest organization at the forefront of the world Intellectual Property scene, has unveiled its new database, Building respect for Intellectual Property Database or BRIP database. BRIP is a project based on “follow the money” approach to tackle copyright infringement. It aims to stop funding of the websites that are flagged for copyright infringement. Presently, due to the complex nature of the online advertising systems, websites flagged for copyright infringement also receive revenue through online advertisements. The brands of the products shown in such advertisements are also diluted as the websites present copyright infringing material. How does BRIP work? “Authorized users” can access the BRIP database and can download the list and use it to block as placements on third-party websites.
